Minecraft Redstone Logic | KIDS

In this workshop, students will learn basic Redstone concepts and implement it to create logic gates within Minecraft.

Minecraft Redstone Logic

Redstone Circuits in Minecraft are used to activate or control mechanisms such as railways, traps, automated resource farms, and hidden entrances. Fundamentally, Redstone is Minecraft’s version of electricity. In this workshop, students will learn basic Redstone concepts, explore the different types of circuits, and implement Redstone to create logic gates that will power a variety of mechanisms in their game world. By experimenting and building specific functions with Redstone, students will hone skills of systems thinking, problem-solving, and creative expression.

Sound Design for Film | KIDS

In this workshop, students will explore the full audio production pipeline to create the sound for a film clip.

Sound Design for Film

Sound is a fundamental part of visual linear media from T.V., Film, Journalism, Podcasting, & Music, and sound is a fundamental part of storytelling. Students will explore the full audio production pipeline to create the sound for a film clip. They will record original audio, source audio samples, synthesize, layer sounds, add effects, mix, and assemble their audio production to create an entirely unique soundscape for their clip. They will leave with a garageband project they can further edit, as well as an exported video file of their clip with their sound redesign.

Animation with Procreate | TEENS

In this workshop, students will first learn the basic tools of a digital art program to create 2D art on the iPad.

Animation with Procreate

2D animation consists of a sequence of hand drawn frames in a two-dimensional space that appear to create motion when played together. The art of 2D animation has encompassed many industries and mediums, leaving meaningful and powerful images with audiences. In this workshop, students will first learn the basic tools of a digital art program to create 2D art on the iPad. They will explore using tools such as different brush styles and layer hierarchy. Students will complete their projects by learning and applying some fundamental tools and principles of animation to add movement to their drawings.

Tabletop Game Challenge | KIDS

In this workshop, students will assemble into small groups and face the challenge of designing and prototyping a game.

Tabletop Game Challenge

In the Tabletop Game Industry, game designers are called “inventors” and they drive the entire creative process. They take a seed of an idea and play around with it until it’s a working game. They craft experimental models called prototypes and then playtest it with other players. In this workshop, students will assemble into small groups and face the challenge of designing and prototyping a tabletop game that adheres to specified criteria and is limited to a set amount of materials. Students must utilize game design principles such as rules, goals, and challenges and will race the clock to pitch and demo their completed games. At the close of this workshop, students will leave with the blueprints for a working game they made themselves!

Photoshop GIF Creator | KIDS

In this workshop, students will implement Photoshop’s fundamental tools, such as layer & selection tools, to create a 2D digital art project

Adobe Photoshop is the standard digital art and photo editing software utilized throughout various industries such as photography, graphic design, and animation. In this workshop, students will implement Photoshop’s fundamental tools, such as layer and selection tools, to create a two-dimensional, digital art project utilizing elements of photo manipulation and digital painting. Students will practice the art of visual storytelling by choosing images and colors that work together to tell a cohesive and clear narrative. They will take their projects even further by adding motion to it using animation fundamentals, creating an animated GIF.

Resolve Video Editing | TEENS

In this workshop, students will learn to edit and color grade a video to communicate an intended message and aesthetic.

Resolve Video Editing

DaVinci Resolve is a multifunctional video editing tool that works well for pros and beginners alike. In this workshop, students will learn to edit and color grade a video to communicate an intended message and aesthetic. They will practice the art of assembly as they organize their footage, setting the stage for the edits that will transform the visual and emotive impacts of their edited videos. They will implement the color grading process to correct any imbalances and make their videos feel more vibrant and stylistic. They will round out their editing process by adding titles and effects, adjusting audio, and exporting their final cuts.

Stop Motion Animation

Learn what it takes to produce a stop motion animated film including storyboarding, filming, editing, and adding visual and sound effects. Create an animated short film using action figures, whiteboards, and paper craft. During the process, students will practice skills in story and character development, camera technique, lighting, and frame-by-frame image capturing. Use the Stop-Motion iOS app to learn the essential concepts and edit final projects using iMovie editing software.

GameMaker Submarine Builder | KIDS

In this workshop, students will learn and apply fundamentals of game design by creating a submarine game in Game Maker.

GameMaker Submarine Builder

GameMaker is a cross-platform game engine used by professional studios and indie game developers to create games and prototype emerging ideas. In this workshop, students will learn and apply fundamentals of game design as they build a Submarine game. They will design and build unique 2D art assets that will be used as functional objects in their game and will implement GameMaker’s custom drag-and-drop visual programming to control those objects. They will design their levels and use playtesting and peer feedback to guide their interactive process. At the close of this workshop, students will better understand the work that goes into the games they play and the complex decision-making process that helps to make these games fun.

In this workshop, students will explore the profound impact sound has on games and will use the Digital Audio Workstation Soundtrap

Game Audio with Unreal

No matter what genre of video games you enjoy playing, sound can elevate your playing experience, boost your skill, and keep you coming back for more! In this workshop, students will explore the profound impact sound has on games and will use the Digital Audio Workstation Soundtrap to create audio assets, and implement them using Unreal Engine Blueprints.
